In Vermont, March is a time of maple sap ending in trees, heavy snow and life, interrupted only by skiing and hiking to warm up the wood burning stove. Dirt roads are ineffective, freezing and thawing without interest in their summer habits of drainage, rutted, sometimes frozen, sometimes wet, every car in the state is salty white with brown accents, like the kitchen of your grandmothers.
What does that even mean? This is a great time to refuel your car with friends, skis and tunes on your way to a seated ski lift serviced by a ski resort, or a smelly, crispy, granular ski cache, depending on how you like it. The car that we have chosen for our tasks is the Mazda CX-9. Why? It has plenty of space, six-speed smooth shifting and the Mazda CD3 platform, which has been familiar for many years, has proven itself in control.
