A NYC cab fulfilled its stereotype, forcing my car to the body shop, forcing me into a new CUV. Did I hate it?

First Drive: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson

When I flew to the press launch event for the new 2016 Hyundai Tucson in Minneapolis, all I could think of was: oh god, here we go again with a review of another SUV crossover. Why are we here again? Because reviewing crossovers can be as redundant as buying for them. It seems that they all behave the same, behave the same and do the same thing.

Crossovers are the purest definition of the mainstream and simply the hottest topic on the global automotive market, thanks to sales volumes that far exceed the previous main offer – a typical normal four-door sedan. This is because crossovers are gaining popularity and demand, breeding like rabbits and mercilessly invading our streets, like hordes of zombies, like white on rice, or brown – well, you know, anyway. In the crossover segment, more options are available than in smartphones.

In fact, they are so viral that not only can they be seen on the roads of the world several times per second, but manufacturers are even trying to cope with constant demand. As a result of Hyundai‘s market research, they found that every third car sold today is a crossover.

A few decades ago, when the car was still a little primitive, people actually bought several cars for different purposes. Need to transport something? You would buy a pickup. Want to enjoy your driving experience? You will get a convertible, whether sports or not. Need to attract your upscale business customers to work? Hey, that’s what gigantic luxury barges are for.

But in an effort to create this typical all-rounder to make car ownership easier, does the 2016 Hyundai Tucson make life easier for compact crossovers?
