What’s going on?
More electrification!
“Oh my god, this is really the end of an internal combustion engine, isn’t it,” you think. This seems true for Mercedes-AMG’s beloved brand, as Automobile reports that Mercedes-Benz’s performance division seeks to shift its focus on electrification and hybridization.
Despite the fact that it seems that the end of the EPA, automakers are still pushing to move forward in the direction of electric cars and hybrids in order to continue to reduce their carbon footprint.
What can we expect from this new push?
According to the article, AMG plans to develop new high-voltage batteries, faster charging and more powerful engines, taking into account performance and efficiency. Based on this, four electric vehicles will enter the AMG line. We can expect some models to develop up to 612 horsepower from two engines driving all four wheels. Juice should be supplied from a 105 kWh battery.
When should we expect some electrified AMG awesomeness?
Probably somewhere in the period from 2020 to 2022. Two will be sedans, and the remaining two will take the form of crossovers.
In addition to sophisticated powertrain and transmission technology, other features should be included, such as rear-wheel drive and the uniquely tuned Airmatic dynamic suspension.
What about the hybrid front?
Not everything is lost with an internal combustion engine yet. Because AMG is power, it’s hard to deny that many customers are still craving for this classic AMG V8.
What awaits hybrids? Details are scarce, but new hybrids will appear in the future, both in Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG.
Hints and rumors imply that Mercedes will use technology developed on earlier hybrid models. On these models, Mercedes installed electric motors in the gearbox housing, helping the power switch. In general, this is a more ideal hybrid system, because the cars can still use a traditional transmission, and not the CVT, which other hybrids use.Other plug-in hybrid cars could include an electric rear-drive system with a separate power pack for front-wheel drive models.
